Why Doesn’t Every Villa Need a Large Pool?

Medium-sized luxury swimming pool designed for a modern Saudi villa

A large swimming pool may seem like the more luxurious choice…

But does that mean it is the best choice for every villa?

Not necessarily.

In pool design, the quality of a project is not measured by the number of meters alone. What matters is how successfully the design uses the available space and creates an experience that truly suits the people who will use it.

A large pool requires more space around it, wider circulation areas, and greater operational and maintenance requirements.

In some villas, making the pool larger can actually reduce the spaces that make the outdoor area more comfortable and enjoyable.

A smaller pool, when designed correctly, can create a better balance between water, seating areas, landscaping, and privacy.

Before deciding on the pool size, it is important to ask:

Is the pool primarily intended for swimming?

Or is it designed for relaxation and spending time with family?

Is there a need for a children’s area?

Do we need seating areas around the pool?

Would we benefit from shaded spaces or additional landscaping?

These questions can completely change what the ideal pool size should be.

A swimming pool does not exist separately from the villa.

Its location, shape, surrounding space, and the way it is viewed from inside the home all contribute to the final experience.

A medium-sized pool can sometimes feel more comfortable and luxurious than a large pool that leaves only limited space around it.

And a simple, well-considered design can make an outdoor area feel more spacious without increasing the actual size of the pool.

Of course, there are projects where a larger pool is the right choice.

If the available space allows it, and the intended use requires more room for swimming or entertainment, increasing the pool size can make perfect sense.

But the decision should come from the needs of the project, not from the idea that bigger is always better.

We are not looking for the largest pool that can fit inside a villa.

We are looking for the pool that fits the villa.

Because successful design does not make the pool the only thing you see in the space…

It makes it a natural part of a complete experience.

Luxury is not about making the pool bigger…
It is about making it exactly right for the space and the people who will use it.
